Everett Company’s Freedom Café  (Formerly Brain Café)

This Freedom Café event examined ongoing issues in our public schools, such as an over-reliance on testing, the disproportionate number of students of color who are suspended and expelled, and how these practices feed the school to prison pipeline. The evening included performances and poetry from Everett Company.

Everett’s Freedom Cafés are a series of free presentations that create a dialogue at the intersection of social justice, the humanities and the arts. They bring together artists, educators, activists, scholars and community members to share their knowledge and experiences in an open dialogue with the audience.
Partial funding for this event came from Brown University Creative Arts Council and Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies. Freedom Project is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by Contemporary Dance Theater in partnership with The Yard, Brown University and NPN.
