Under The Great Wide Open was a collaborative 10-day workshop between students at Brown University’s Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies MFA programs, and Rhode Island School of Design’s BFA and MFA programs. The students worked teams that evolved throughout the course, and resulted in multi-disciplinary pieces that created a new language of art making and performance.
This workshop, which was led by filmmaker and playwright, Ethan Silverman, explored the vocabulary, technique, opportunities and challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration as an active creative process. The specific focus and application during this intensive was on the question of how we relate to the world around us—as it represents itself in sensory and tactile form—as well as the virtual world of the internet.
